It has been about two weeks since the FIFA World Cup 2026 kicked off, and every day has been filled with thrilling matches.
Japan’s national team is making remarkable progress, and it’s impossible to look away.
The emblem of the Japan national team features the YATAGARASU, a sacred three‑legged crow said to have guided Emperor JIMMU—the legendary first emperor of Japan—when he lost his way. As a divine guide who leads people to their destination, the YATAGARASU is regarded as a symbol of good fortune and victory.
Each of its three legs is said to represent Heaven, Earth, and Humanity. In mythology, the YATAGARASU is considered the manifestation of KAMO TAKETSUNUMI NO MIKOTO, a deity associated with guidance and protection. It is this deity—the original form of the YATAGARASU—who is enshrined at Shimogamo Shrine in Kyoto. Surrounded by the ancient primeval forest of Tadasu no Mori, the shrine is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is revered as a place of guidance and victory.
Shimogamo Shrine also has a long‑standing connection with our Iemoto family, and its serene atmosphere always brings a sense of calm whenever we visit.
Within the shrine grounds stands Kawai Shrine, dedicated to TAMAYORIHIME NO MIKOTO, the daughter of KAMO TAKETSUNUMI NO MIKOTO, and widely known as a beloved deity of beauty.
The excitement of the FIFA World Cup is still in full swing,and I’d like to pray for victory with the YATAGARASU emblem on my chest.
