OBI is just one long, thin piece of cloth, but it can be coordinated in many ways
depending on how it is tied.
Now we’ll introduce ‘FUKUOTOME DAIKO’, the Fukuotome knot,
which is tied with a Hanhaba Obi (a half-width Obi).
About FUKUOTOME DAIKO (Musubi)
“FUKUOTOME DAIKO (Musubi)” is an Otaiko‑style Obi knot created with a Hanhaba Obi.
Because it doesn’t require an Obi pillow or Obiage, it can be tied easily and comfortably.
It’s a lovely choice for strolling around town or for casual outings.
What to Prepare

How to Tie
1.Take 3 times the width of the Obi (about 18″) from the end and place it in the center
of the body. Wrap the Obi around the body twice.
2. Tie the knot with the Obi width as it is, so that the ‘Tare’ is on top.
3. Place the ‘Te’ over the knot from left to right to create a feather.
4. Pass the ‘Tare’ up through the knot from below.
5. Set the tip of the ‘Tare’ about 5cm (about 2″) longer than the bottom edge of the Obi,
then tighten the Obijime.
6. Thread a temporary cord through the looped ‘Tare’, tie it at the top edge of the Obi,
and tuck it inside.
7. Shift the layered Otaiko part slightly to set the shape and voila!
In the End
FUKUOTOME DAIKO can be tied in either a sweet or a chic style by adjusting the position
of the side feathers and the roundness of the Otaiko.
The colors and patterns on the front and back of the Obi create a variety of expressions.
